BULL RUN MUZZLELOADERS

Tony Sucher
The Winter Shooting Season proved to be a real challenge. March was a lot cooler than it first appeared, but after the February shoot it was considered balmy!! January proved to be the real challenge. It was so windy AND COLD that the shooter who braved the elements prevailed upon the Shoot Master to limit the targets to 25 yards only. The wind was so high that it was thought that at 50 yards the round ball would go through the target, FRONT TO BACK and then turn around and come back through BACK TO FRONT. Two scores for one shot! Being a kind soul the Shoot Master agreed, and returned to the target locker to find the SMALLEST 25 yard targets available. But a good time and plenty of prizes were had by all.Several more new shooters have made their appearance looking for guidance and training in the use of their muzzleloaders. They have so much fun that they keep coming back to either enter the competition and/or garner additional information on the care and feeding of a muzzleloader.
On May 13 the Bull Run Muzzle Loaders will again be offering one-on-one muzzleloading instruction for the Women on Target program.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn about muzzleloaders, observe and then perform the loading sequence, and fire the rifle from a bench position.

BULL RUN MUZZLELOADERS
The instructors include individuals who have been shooting muzzleloaders for years; NMLRA certified instructors; NRA certified instructors; RO’s and RSO’s; past and present National Champions and other highly qualified people.
Bull Run Muzzleloaders meet on the third Sunday of every month. Anyone is welcome. Club guns and individual instruction are available. Any safe muzzleloader, no optical sights. Competitions begin at 9 AM after a short meeting and safety instructions. Competitions end at 2 PM with prizes being awarded as soon as the Shoot Masters have tallied the scores. Children under 16, accompanied by an adult, shoot free and participate in the prize winning.
Prizes at BRML shoots are usually groceries, and bragging rights. The competitions are unique in that everyone who enters generally manages to take something home. The basic entry fee is $15, with a re-entry fee of $1.00 per target. Alternately there is a fee of $20 for unlimited re-entries.
